Installation of audio and photography by Josefien Hendrix and Jeroen W. Mantel.

This is a project I did in my hometown last summer. It’s part of an installation that was shown just for a short time in a local gallery.

It’s a tribute to medical personnel taking care of patients in a hospice who are facing their physical ends within weeks, days, or even hours.

The title “Invisible work” refers to the anonymity of the people who so passionately work there. Instead of showing their faces, I kept them anonymous and gave their body language space to show their strength and love for what they do. It was initiated by documentary maker Josefien Hendriks, who recorded audio for the installation. It was a collection of interviews with medical personnel.

The hands that are being massaged belong to a lady who passed away shortly after.

I’m really thankful to have had the opportunity to see behind the closed doors of the hospice De Bregthoeve. A quick and beautiful reminder of the fact that we are all human beings with a beginning and an end.
