Lierse fait la force
The history of the Belgian soccer league is full of legendary moments. Moments that are etched in every fan’s memory. Moments you fear you will never experience again. But anything is possible in soccer, so there is always a chance that such a legendary event will happen again. And when it does, you’ll see it live on Play Sports during the playoffs.
Play Sports’ new spot is about such a moment in soccer history: the year Lierse captured its last Belgian title against all odds, 1997. Fans and former players Bob Peeters and Eric Van Meir look back on that unforgettable year in which the country’s small team dominated the entire season and played champion under Erik Gerets’ leadership.
In the spot directed by Jef Boes for Aka De Mensen, we see players and fans from back then reunite as they describe how they remember that championship year down to the smallest detail. You never forget anything like that. The legendary archival footage is the ultimate proof of that. But what’s punishing is that another team could write a similar dream story this season: Union Saint-Gilloise. The team that Lierse supporters pay tribute to in their own way at the end of the spot concludes with the line, “If history repeats itself, you’ll see it on Play Sports.”
